Milford Sound is actually a fiord, not a sound. With a mean annual rainfall of 252 inches each year, it’s known as the wettest inhabited place in New Zealand and one of the wettest in the world. Milford Sound has two permanent waterfalls, but after a heavy rain, it sports dozens of temporary waterfalls that can be seen running down the steep-sided rock faces
that line the fiord. Kirk and Francelle, a 60-something couple from Louisiana enjoyed touring Milford Sound on a cloudy day in south New Zealand and love sharing their experiences with like-minded people.
